CULTURE

WE ARE AN AWARD-WINNING FULL SERVICE MEDIA PRODUCTION COMPANY, BASED IN THE VIBRANT JUDITH WRIGHT CENTRE OF CONTEMPORARY ART IN BRISBANE'S FORTITUDE VALLEY.

About

We are an award-winning full service media production company, based in the vibrant Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley.

We do it all! We create, engage and entertain with an extremely talented team of creatives and producers with our very own state-of-the-art edit suite.

We develop children’s television shows, documentaries, television and radio commercials, corporate productions, interactive websites and mobile device applications as well as public awareness campaigns and marketing and social media strategies.

We specialise in graphic design, branding, motion graphics, animation, film editing, time lapse photography and even live streaming of music and sporting events and so much more.

We work all over Australia and we love to film in New York!

We’re not afraid to take on new challenges and try something different. We love innovation and thinking outside the box. That’s why we’re on top of the digital game.

Rethink Indigenous

We’re unique, innovative, inspiring, ingenious … Indigenous

We’re proudly Aboriginally owned and operated.

We have a big heart. We love our work, we love our family and we love our country. We value our history and our heritage.

We are passionate about promoting positive Indigenous role models and want to take our vision and our stories, and share it with the world. We want to challenge perceptions and stereotypes and make a difference to this great southern land.

Our work reflects our passion.

We developed Australia’s first Indigenous children’s game show and we’ve produced landmark documentaries on Australia’s remarkable Indigenous history.

Our talented team is a great mix of extremely creative and experienced Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians. We love working together and learn a lot from each other.

We have Supply Nation certification, which means a direct business-to-business purchasing link between corporate Australia, government agencies and Indigenous-owned businesses.

We are also a registered training organisation (RTO) that, in conjunction with partners, nurtures the training of Indigenous young people. We offer certificates in Screen Media.

Take a fresh look. Create, engage and entertain with Carbon.

Awards

We’re a talented bunch. But don’t take our word for it!
Carbon has been awarded and recognised by some very prestigious organisations.

In 2010, we won the Queensland Premier’s Reconciliation Award for Emerging Business and we believe no matter what industry you work in, you can contribute to reconciliation.

We also won the BHP Billiton-Reconciliation Australia’s Indigenous Governance Award in 2010.

In 2011, our creative work on IP Australia’s Dream Shield campaign won the Australian Marketing Institute‘s Corporate Social Responsibility Award for Marketing Excellence.

We’ve also been finalists against some pretty amazing competition.

In 2011, we got to strut our stuff on the red carpet at the ASTRA Awards for Go Lingo! - our ground breaking children’s game show.

In 2010, we were finalist for the Brisbane Lord Mayor’s Business Awards for Business Creativity and the Australian Teacher of Media (ATOM) Awards for Best Documentary/ Short Film for our landmark documentary From the Ashes.

In 2009, we were finalists in the Telstra Business of the Year Awards in the AMP Innovation Category.

In 2008, we were finalists in the United Nations Association of Australia Media Peace Awards for the Indigenous travel program Blacktracks New York.

Not bad for a company that opened its doors in 2006. And we’re not done yet!

WORK

OUR CLIENTS LOVE TO WORK WITH US AS WE HAVE HEART ... OH! AND TALENT, AND CAN MEET A DEADLINE, AND LET’S NOT FORGET, WE’RE ALSO VERY WELL PRICED. HERE’S A PEEK AT WHAT WE CAN DO, BUT DON’T LET THAT LIMIT YOU, AS WE CAN DO IT ALL!

MEET THE CREATIVE PEOPLE WHO MAKE UP THE

CREW

Wayne Denning

The Visionary

Wayne is the owner and Executive Producer of Carbon Media. Fueled by caffeine shots, our fearless leader can be seen winning prestigious awards, producing quality Australian television shows or having tea with Prince William! Wayne’s passion for promoting and portraying positive Indigenous role models in the Australian media is awe inspiring. We're not the only ones who think so! He's on the board of the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia, the Brisbane Writer's Festival and the Indigenous Advisory Committee of the Brisbane Festival. Wayne is a proud Birri Gubba man, with a strong desire to make a difference to our beautiful country. In our eyes, Wayne is a true unsung Australian hero!

Tamyson Scott

The Personality

If the world was hunting for weapons of creative destruction, then Tamyson would be sent in as the Carbon peacekeeper. With over 13 years experience in the advertising industry, our award-winning senior producer of television knows how to wrangle the troops, rein in the creatives and overt disasters. With a cool head, soothing voice and a heart of gold, Tamyson is our Carbonheart, minus the blue and white face paint that is!  She certainly keeps us shouting 'creativity'!

Katrine Bowman

The Dynamo

Whoever said 'good things come in small packages' was talking about Katrine. With over 20 years experience, producing for Television, Radio, Still Photography and Digital Content, Katrine is our very accomplished senior producer, who also mentors our production team.  Katrine produced the very successful Brisbane Marketing "Sleepy Little Town" campaign as well as campaigns for clients such as The Courier Mail, The Sunday Mail, Michael Hill Jeweller, Treasury Casino, Jupiters Casino, RACQ, Colorado Shoes, Suncorp Metway, Tourism Queensland ... to name a few!

Amber Moran

The Adventurer

Indiana Jones has nothing on this brave belle.  Our dynamic  Accounts Director is an intrepid explorer who has trekked the globe in search of adventure, creative opportunities and the story behind the story.  Her professional pursuits have seen her lead award-winning environmental campaigns and write everything from children’s television to hard-hitting news.   Armed with imagination, determination and a funky set of beads, this Temple of Groom knows how to get bang for your buck.

Dean Gibson

The Ideas Man

Dean is the creative genius behind Carbon. In fact, if Dean had any more pearls of ideas, he'd be chased by pirates! But that wouldn’t faze this lover of Dunlop volleys, he'd be able to outrun them in his fetching Adidas trackie! This passionate family man is an extremely talented Indigenous filmmaker, accomplished scriptwriter and gifted director. He’s a true Renaissance man! But don’t tell anyone, he secretly wants to be a Jedi instead. Hmm, talented are you!!

Mikael Wedemeyer

The Innovator

Living on the frontiers of the wild wild web, Mikael is our pioneer of all things digital. Our Sundance Kid, from Sunshine Beach, is a straight shooter who sorts out the good, the bad and the ugly of the Internet to ensure our websites are packed with a fistful of dynamite. As he gallops down the digital super highway, lassoing innovation and harnessing new technologies, Mikael is still loyal to his original posse – Lego, Star Wars and Macintosh. He even possesses an impressive collection of old Macs and iPod Nanos. If you’re looking to strike digital gold, then Mikael is surely a wanted man!

Danielle Ah Boo

The Magician

If you’re looking for a cockatoo with a moustache, a pink lamington the size of a caravan or a Chihuahua that can play the didgeridoo, then you need the remarkable services of Danielle - our extremely resourceful assistant producer. Calm and serene like the tropical waters of her beloved Torres Strait, Danielle makes the impossible possible and she does it all with a huge smile. With a voracious appetite for life and learning, this island treasure is devoted to her family and has more friends than Facebook.

Tane Matheson

The Genuis

Tane eats NASA algorithms for breakfast! At least he did when he was creating 3D models of Brisbane’s inner city traffic tunnels. With a healthy head of genius hair, Tane is our Senior Motion Graphics Designer and Animator. According to Tane’s Theory of Creativity, animation bends the fabric of imagination and perception, distorting the space-time continuum. You know, the ol' formula chestnut - 'Imagination equals Carbon Media squared'. With over 12 years experience in multimedia design and over 15 years experience as a sound engineer and producer, Tane would certainly agree with Einstein that arts and sciences are all branches of the same tree.

Jodie Lyons

The Artist

If creativity grew on trees, then Jodie would live in the Amazon. This yoga-lovin' California girl is our super-cool digital graphic designer. With her love for life, Jodie brings a fresh, bold and colourful approach to any design canvas. Originally studying marketing, Jodie took a detour to the United States of Design and has never looked back. And we're glad she did. With a Zen-like intuition, Jodie gets the clients brief, sometimes eerily before they do, and provides dazzling work.

Stephen Limkin

The Slicer

Stephen is an expert at shooting and slicing and oh yeah, he's an all-round nice guy. No, he's not Dexter, he's our very talented cameraman and in-house editor. Stephen has more experience in shooting, editing, and sound production than you can poke a stick at and he also has a background in IT. Talk about useful! Stephen is passionate about filmmaking and story telling.  He's certainly a talent behind the scenes!

Alannah Ahmat

The Face

Beautiful, vivacious and bubbly! Alannah is the perfect host for our award-winning children’s television shows. She's quick on her feet, an ace with the kids and not too shabby at handball! We have the pleasure of Alannah’s company at our creative headquarters too and she’ll be the friendly face that greets you at our door. A proud Torres Strait Islander, Alannah is as sunny as the coast she grew up on in south-east Queensland.
